He surprised everyone around him when he decided to quit his job as a celebrated chef with Taj Hotels, Bangalore. Yes! Narayan Krishnan, who was also selected for an elite job in Switzerland took this step. In 2002, an incident moved him so much that he began feeding the homeless and mentally disabled in his hometown.

He described the incident as the most disturbing scene of his life when he saw a very old man, eating his own waste out of hunger.
He quickly got him idli and the old man ate the food.
Meanwhile, the tears of happiness overwhelmed him.

After this incident Krishnan started his organisation Akshaya Trust in 2003 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The trust serves all the three meals to 425 disabled, homeless and elderly people in Madurai. Not just that, free haircuts are also given to them whenever required.

The kitchen of the Trust is no less than a five star hotel and daily food costs around Rs 15,000. He goes on with his work selflessly. We salute him!!
