Diet Soda And Aspartame Linked To Premature Deaths In Women

Research undertaken over a ten year period has now confirmed that women who regularly drink diet soda’s containing aspartame have a 30% greater risk of heart attack and a 50% greater risk of death.

The study involving 60,000 women is perhaps the biggest and most frightening indication yet of the dangers of toxic aspartame on our bodies, often when combined with an unhealthy lifestyle. Scientists presented the astonishing figures before the American College of Cardiology earlier this year.

Ankur Vyas, MD, of the University of Iowa, led the research project and found that postmenopausal women who consumed two or more diet drinks a day were 30 percent more likely to experience a cardiovascular event and50 percent more likely to die from related cardiovascular disease than women who never, or only rarely, consumed diet drinks.

The analysis of the participants in the Women’s Health Initiative Observational Study, had an average age of 62.8 and no history of cardiovascular disease.

Vyas said “Our study suggests an association between higher diet drink consumption and mortality.”

The study also said that the women who consumed the most drinks were also more likely to smoke, to be overweight, to have diabetes and to have high blood pressure, which has led criticism of the results as maybe the lifestyle of those individuals played more of a part than the diet sodas.
Whoever is right, the dangers of aspartame are becoming more and more obvious.

ASPARTAME IS A NEUROTOXIN
Aspartame is a chemical compound manufactured in laboratories and derives from the direct fermentation of certain genetically modified bacteria which have the ability to produce specific amino acids. It is produced in huge quantities. Over the course of about three days, these amino acids are harvested and the bacteria are destroyed. Put simply aspartame is derived from the feces of genetically modified bacteria.

When it is used in diet sodas, it breaks down within the body into various chemical compounds including formaldehyde and methanol. During the digestive process, the formaldehyde is further oxidized into formic acid. Formic acid has been shown to be toxic in animal testing but methanol is a more dangerous hidden danger.

Dr. Woodrow C. Monte, is a retired food scientist and Professor Emeritus of Food Science and Nutrition at Arizona State University (ASU) published a paper entitled “Methanol: A chemical Trojan Horse as the root of the Inscrutable U” (ii). He describes how methanol toxicity from aspartame and other sources appears to be responsible for causing autism, spina bifida, preterm delivery, multiple sclerosis, cancer and many other chronic health conditions.

These are bold claims but Monte says “Methanol is particularly dangerous to humans, more so than any other animal….When humans consume low doses of methanol it is metabolized directly into formaldehyde which is a cancer producing agent of the same level of danger as asbestos and plutonium.”
As aspartame eventually became a major source of methanol in the civilized human diet, the incidence of Diseases of Civilization or DOC’s (what Monte terms many modern diseases) gradually began to rise. In addition to aspartame, and canned vegetables, fruits, and their juices, a major source of the methanol entering the modern civilized human body is cigarette smoke, causatively linked to atherosclerosis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, Alzheimer’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and other DOC. It is my belief that diet soda has contributed to the rise of breast cancer and multiple sclerosis that has been preceded by the use of Aspartame as a food ingredient in every country that has allowed its use.

Aspartame is linked to long list of neurological problems despite assurances that it is safe. But it is wise to remember that these same bodies also declared GMO’s and mercury to be safe!

Many studies have shown aspartame linked to blurred vision, headaches and neurological problems when repeatedly consumed in the form of diet drinks. It has been associated with a host of symptoms including headaches/migraines, dizziness, seizures, nausea, numbness, rashes, depression, irritability, insomnia, hearing loss, vision problems, loss of taste vertigo and memory loss.

These observations on the harmful potential of diet drinks are startling, and reflect the concern that many cardiologists have had over the years not only to the amount soft drinks consumed, but also the combination of soft drinks with sweeteners such as aspartame. Urgent research is needed in this area, especially in the light of the epidemic of obesity which, at least in part, is related to the consumption of diet soft drinks (especially given that diet sodas have been conclusively proven to have no effect whatsoever on weight loss.
