Most happening ATM scam around you, you didn’t know…
People are using such fake keypads in several countries since 2011 till date.
It is known as skimmer – a miniature hand-held reading machine which can be attached to the ATM.
It helps fraudsters to steal data bank cards details stored on the magnetic strip like Name, Expiration date, 3 digit verification pin, etc.
The device can be attached to a card reader with a small video cam in brochure holder next to the ATM.
It can steal information from the magnetic strip only, but not with the chip. This is why chip cards are more secure.
Very few people are aware of it. Here are more signs to know if it’s fake:
· Try to raise the ATM Keypad – MAJOR sign that it’s fake.
· The red, yellow and green bars or buttons on the right are usually longer than the regular ones.
· There are mostly no spots on the left.
