Shigeaki Hinohara is a 104 year old doctor from Japan, is giving the best advices about how to live up to 100 years and enjoy every year. He is one of the oldest Japanese educators , he was born in 1911. He is an author of 150 books including “Living long, Living good” and he is a founder of the “New Elderly Movement”. Below are the best advices that were told by him, on how to live a long, healthy and happy life.
1. Always carry your own stuff and take the stairs
Dr. Hinohara still takes two steps at a time while climbing the stairs, this represents firm proponent.
2. Don’t believe everything recommended by a specialist or your doctor
Educate yourself, read more, no one forces you to believe your doctor.
3. Share what you know with others
He gives 150 lectures in business communities, in schools etc. He often gives lectures on war and peace. Most of his lectures and lessons are done while standing, and some of them may take up yo 90 minutes.
4. No one says that you have to retire
Do not retire, if you love the work you do in your life.
5. Plan ahead
If you don’t want your life to be boring, you must have a busy schedule, filled with lectures, appointments, work etc. Now Dr.Hinohara wants to attend the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
6. Don’t be overweight
He consumes a tablespoon ov olive oil, coffee and orange juice for breakfast. For lunch he has milk, cookies and rice, fish and a lot of vegetables for dinner. He is consuming 100g of meat only two times a week.
7. Your level of energy doesn’t come from eating well, or resting longer. It comes only from feeling good.
You will be happier and more energized if you get rid of your rules in your mind, act like children, think like children – have fun until you feel hungry or sleepy.
8. It is beautiful to live long
He still volunteers, serves society, works 18h a day, every day in the week and also enjoys every single moment in his life.
9. Find your role model
Most doctors ask themselves what would his father do when he cases with some issue.
10. Life is full of incidents, so don’t worry too much
Dr.Hinohara was hijacked by the Soviet Army when he was 59, he was handcuffed to a chair for 4 years in under 40 degrees heat. He is very amazed about how his body slowed down its process to adapt to deprivation.
11. Science alone can not help and cure people
He believes that illness can be cured with visual and liberal arts, and he believes that every person is unique and needs different treatment.
12. Don’t go crazy for money
He is very aware that when he leaves this world he will not be able to take anything with him.
13. Pain is a mysterious thing
To forget the pain or not to feel it, you must do something interesting and fun. He found out that animals and music can really help you to get rid of the pain and forget it.
14. Be inspired all the time
To motivate yourself you must be inspired, he says that he found inspiration in the poem named “Abt Vogler” who is written by Robert Browning.
