If you looked back all the way until the beginning of time, it is likely that you would come to realize that men have always feared death. However, philosopher and Zen guru Alan Watts (if you wish to call him that) has an outlook that could forever change the way you view death.

According to Watts, death is “the necessary consequence of what we call being.” But he also says that death is nothing to fear at all. ”We live in a culture where it has been rubbed into us in every conceivable way that to die is a terrible thing. And that is a tremendous disease from which our culture in particular suffers,” he explains.

And while one video would probably suffice to get the point across, Watts didn’t just speak about death on one occasion. On the contrary, he actually spoke on the topic in great depth. In the first video, Watts speaks about the acceptance of death. Then, in the video following, you can hear Watts speak about the Buddhist concept of death, reincarnation, and rebirth throughout the various realms.

Life is the most beautiful experience in existence, and while it may be messy, quick, and oftentimes painful, it is worth every moment. Don’t waste your time worrying about death. As Watts says, it is an inevitable consequence of being alive. But that doesn’t mean that dying is a dark or bad thing. Actually, it is just another step in our own cycle.
