Prostitutes are selling sex for as little as £4 in Liverpool, a new documentary claims.

The BBC Three documentary features interviews with sex workers in the city, which is thought to have more prostitutes than any UK city apart from London.

It includes footage from Sheil Road – which was previously highlighted in a Liverpool Echo investigation into sex work.

Liam, who ensures the sex workers are safe, said: ‘Some of the girls give it away for £4.’

The drop in prices has been blamed on increased competition from eastern European women.

But local women are determined to continue working ‘because they’re desperate to get crack’.

Liam said: ‘I’m not a pimp. I have nothing do with any of their money. They just buy me drinks, food, they don’t pay me.’

Natalie, Liam’s ex-girlfriend, is one of the women working on Sheil Road, and does so to pay for her drug addiction.

She said: ‘Obviously I had to lower prices to get them there.

‘What’s normal to me is getting up, getting dressed and getting to have sex with a different man day in, day out.’

Jack, Natalie’s housemate, said: ‘It’s just because they’re battling for business – because they’re desperate to get crack.’

‘Sex Map of Britain’ can be watched on YouTube as well as BBC iPlayer.
